- Change it at vhf's intervals, not when the fault shows.
The chuck keeps the tool centred, and once it is worn the tool starts to run out of true. It shows first as a poorer surface and shorter tool life, and only much later as dimensional errors. Changing it in time is cheaper than changing tools more often.
